Performance Evaluation of two Industrial MPC Controllers
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents industrial case studies of the performance evaluation of two industrial multivariate MPC-based controllers at the Mitsubishi chemical complex in Mizushima, Japan: 1) a 6-output, 6-input Para-Xylene(PX) production process with 6 measured disturbance variables that are used for feedforward control; and 2) a multivariate MPC controller for a 6-output, 5 input poly-propylene splitter column with 2 measured disturbances. A generalized predictive controllerbased MPC algorithm has been implemented on the PX process. Data from the PX unit before and after the MPC implementation are analyzed to obtain and compare several different measures of multivariate controller performance. The second case study is concerned with performance assessment of a commercial MPC controller on a propylene splitter. A discussion on the diagnosis of poor performance for the second MPC application suggests significant model-plant-mismatch under varying load conditions and highlights the role of constraints.

This paper presents an industrial case study of the performance evaluation of a multivariate MPC-based controller as implemented on a 6-output, 6-input industrial process with 6 measured disturbance variables that are used for feed forward control. The industrial unit is a Para-Xylene (PX) production process at Mitsuibishi’s petrochemical complex in Mizushima, Japan. A generalized predictive co...
متن کاملConstrained Controller Design for Real-time Delay Recovery in Metro Systems
This study is concerned with the real-time delay recovery problem in metro loop lines. Metro is the backbone of public transportation system in large cities. A discrete event model for traffic system of metro loop lines is derived and presented. Two effective automatic controllers, linear quadratic regulator (LQR) and model predictive controller (MPC), are used to recover train delays. A newly-...
متن کاملMultivariate Controller Performance Analysis: Methods, Applications and Challenges
This paper provides a tutorial introduction to the role of the time-delay or the interactor matrix in multivariate minimum variance control. Minimum variance control gives the lowest achievable output variance and thus serves as a useful benchmark for performance assessment. One of the major drawbacks of the multivariate minimum variance benchmark is the need for apriori knowledge of the multiv...
متن کاملPerformance Assessment of Model Predictive Control Systems
This paper aims at to propose a benchmark MPC controller to be used in the performance assessment of existing industrial MPC systems. The basic questions are how the performance could be evaluated in a realistic basis and how to judge the performance of a controller that is already in operation by comparing it with another controller that could be really implemented in the same system. Here, it...
